“Hey! What’s going on here?” Cameron Mitchell demanded, eyes darting accusingly between his fellow teammates. For what felt like the hundredth time, he wished that Sam and Teal’c had come along, and rubbed at his temples wearily to reduce the pain that had been building up since they had been waiting in the gate room to head off no more than a half hour before.
The absence of SG-1’s astrophysicist and Jaffa had left him with Daniel and Vala – a great mix if you wanted lots of trouble, unnecessary risks and a big honkin’ headache. The headache had definitely come in full force. Seriously! Going on missions with Daniel and Vala when there was no back up was like babysitting of the worst kind!
Cam’s gaze finally settled on the archaeologist, who appeared less than thrilled at his current position of being interrogated by his friend and CO. “Daniel?” he prompted firmly. His answer came in the form of silence and a pained look. “C’mon, Daniel. What’s going on?” He stared him down, hoping to break the man into talking. Nope. Nothing.
He turned to Vala. “What about you, huh? Can you tell me what’s going on?” Shoving his hands in his pockets, he could have sworn he saw a smirk pass quickly over her face before she shrugged casually and shot Daniel a dirty grin.
Cam sighed and shook his head. “Fine, whatever. Just…be careful, will ya? I, for one, don’t want to get shot at today.” Without another word, he dismissed his two friends and began walking again towards the city.
Vala leered at his retreating back and as soon as he was out of sight, moved tactfully behind a large boulder away from Daniel. She reached down for another handful of snow and packed it into a hard ball, as he almost reluctantly repeated her actions, hiding instead behind a blackened tree stump.
Both turned to throw their snowballs at each other when Cam’s voice came to them again. “Daniel? Vala? Where are you guys?”
Smirking at each other, they changed their targets and took aim...
